Assembly 美国班六月集会

At the end of the year, there are so many things to do in the classroom, from final tests to cleaning out the desks and returning books. But, when the students’ thoughts have started to turn towards the summer and getting out of school, the students in GIA gathered to review and celebrate the year that has just passed.

The Grade One and Grade Three students led the assembly under the guidance of Mr. Corson and Miss Moss. Every assembly focuses on one of the GIA Core &#118alues found in the Journey to Excellence. The Journey to Excellence is a program that works on developing every GIA student into a global citizen that is ready to enter the world as a contributing member of society. The GIA Core &#118alue that was being talked about this time was “Respect.” Mr. Corson led the students through a discussion about respect. They talked about how to respect teachers, classmates, other’s property, and themselves.

Next, Mr. Corson introduced “The Ultimate Quiz!” The students all listened eagerly as he explained that this quiz was a competition between the grades. He would act as the host of the game show and ask the questions. Whichever grade could answer first had the opportunity to win a point for their class. The questions ranged from grammar, geography, science, language arts, and even Huamei trivia. Throughout the course of the gameshow, the Grade One and Grade Three students had a chance to perform the skits and songs that they had been working on all year. Grade One taught us about the life cycle of a butterfly, the writing process, and sang many songs about grammar and classroom behavior. Grade Three sang all the names of the United States in alphabetical order, the layers of earth, and the different kinds of rocks.

After demonstrating all their knowledge, it was time for awards. Miss Moss hosted awards for the teachers, giving the students a chance to try and guess which teacher deserved the award the most. The awards ranged from the Raisin Award (most deserving of a “raise in” pay) to the Running with the Bulls Award (for the teacher who takes the most risks). Mr. Lake presented participation and MVP awards from the Huamei GIA Football match against the Canadian International School.

Finally, the culminating activity was a chance for each student to sign their classmate’s shirt. Each student brought in a white t-shirt and passed it around to their classmates for them to sign and write a short message. This keepsake can serve as a special reminder of their wonderful year here in the GIA program at Huamei School. The school year may be over, but the progress they have achieved and skills they have developed will continue to carry them as they become global citizens.
